About The Position

The Intake Manager is responsible for performing a comprehensive pre-admission screening, identifying mental health needs, and making recommendations for the appropriate level of care, including admissions, referrals, resource allocation, and alternative levels of care. The role requires demonstrating knowledge and skills necessary to assess and provide interventions appropriate to the condition and age of patients served. Familiarity with the principles of mental health assessment, status, crisis intervention, and growth/development throughout the life cycle is essential. The Intake Manager is responsible for gathering clinical data/admission criteria and completing pre-admission screening documentation to justify admission. This role also serves as a liaison with physicians, nursing staff, courts, community providers, referral sources, and internal customers. A Master's Degree in a Behavioral Health field with clinical experience is preferred.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, social services, or counseling fields.
  • AR licensure required.
  • Must be licensed in the state of Arkansas.
  • Must have or obtain current CPI certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Preferred licensure: LCSW/LPC/RN.
  • 2 years experience working in the acute psychiatric setting preferred.
  • Prefer Master’s Degree in Behavioral Health field with clinical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Communicates pertinent information to all parties involved, including patients, families, physicians, case managers, and payers.
  • Communicates accurate information regarding patient’s psychiatric and medical status, comorbidities, functional/cognitive status, risk factors, patient’s discharge plans, criteria, and recommendation for disposition.
  • Stays well informed concerning admission criteria, conditions of participation admission requirements, medical necessity criteria, and CMS program updates as appropriate to pre-admission activities.
  • Maintains a thorough working knowledge of the unit’s administrative operations and a familiarity with all aspects of the unit’s treatment program and clinical services.
  • Provides on-site clinical assessments for potential patients within the hospital as well as from external referral sources.
  • Accurately documents assessments to ensure complete data collection on the preadmission assessment form. Audits forms completed by all assisting staff (nursing, weekend coverage, night coverage) and coaches corrections as needed.
  • Assists in alternative placement recommendations when patients are not appropriate for inpatient psychiatric admission.
  • Assists with the process for emergency detentions and involuntary admissions.
  • Displays good theoretical and practical knowledge of mental health and substance abuse disorders and treatments.
  • Notifies staff, physician, and program director of any follow-ups that need to be addressed.
  • Acts as a liaison between the unit and hospital departments for screenings, admissions, and transfers. Maintains contact with hospital ER, Case Management, and other departments to coordinate care and services.
  • Completes work and documentation within the established time frame, utilizing time well while at work and maintaining a positive work ethic.
  • Actively participates in treatment team meetings and in the development/support of patient safety improvement activities.
  • Maintains a positive, professional image in the hospital and in the community.
  • Participates in coverage of the program to ensure patient access to services.
  • Develops a back-up system to handle referral calls and pre-admission assessments when not personally available.
  • Performs any additional duties that are appropriate for the effective functioning of the program.
