About The Position

The Intake Clinician will be the first connection for individuals and families seeking urgent, emergent, or ongoing support. Working under the guidance of the Mental Health Program Director and Program Coordinator, you'll be part of a collaborative team focused on helping individuals of all ages access the services they need - whether they're living with Severe Mental Illness (SMI), Severe Emotional Disturbance (SED), or Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD). This role involves helping clients navigate their first steps into care with compassion and clarity, conducting assessments, and coordinating access to the right level of support. It is a frontline role in community mental health care.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Social Work, Psychology or related field.
  • Training in bio-psychosocial assessments and crisis intervention.
  • If degree is in Social Work, must be Michigan Licensed Master's Social Worker (LMSW) or Limited Licensed Social Worker (LLMSW) with the intent and ability to obtain a LMSW within two years of hire.
  • If degree is in Counseling, must be a Michigan Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or a Limited Licensed Professional Counselor (LLPC) with the intent and ability to obtain a LPC within two years of hire.
  • If degree is in Psychology, must be a Michigan Limited Licensed Psychologist (LLP) or Michigan Licensed Psychologist (LP) or Michigan Temporary Limited Licensed Psychologist (TLLP) with the intent and ability to obtain a LLP within two years of hire.
  • A valid Michigan Driver's License.
  • Proficient with electronic communication and able to work with an electronic medical record.
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment with time limited deadlines for documentation.
  • Strong teaming skills.
  • Commitment to clinical excellence, community inclusion, community benefit, innovation, integrated care and improvement.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in working with persons with Serious Mental Illness, Serious Emotional Disturbance and Developmental/Intellectual Disabilities.
  • Experience in providing crisis intervention.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments and coordinate access to the right level of support.
  • Provide office and community based assessments to determine eligibility for CMH services as well as substance abuse screenings, referrals and authorizations.
  • Provide crisis intervention as needed and pre-screens for in-patient psychiatric hospitalizations.
  • Utilize the DSM-5, ASAM, LOCUS, Columbia, SCQ, MichiCANS and CAFAS/PECFAS tools in daily work.
  • Work side-by-side with a multidisciplinary team dedicated to mental wellness.
