About The Position
The Behavioral Health Intake Case Manager RN provides compassionate care to patients with acute mental health needs in an inpatient behavioral health setting. Working with an interdisciplinary care team, the role supports patient safety, stabilization, and recovery. The position handles psychiatric crisis triage and assessment, admission and disposition decisions, regulatory compliance, utilization review, and coordination with psychiatrists and community resources. The case manager also advocates for patients and helps integrate healthcare providers to support seamless care across the continuum.
Requirements
- Current and valid State RN License or LBSW.
- At least 2 years of psychiatric nursing experience.
- BLS certification upon hire and maintained as current.
- Knowledge of psychiatric medical necessity and case management regulations in discharge planning.
Nice To Haves
- More than 2 years of management experience.
- Experience in psychiatric emergency care and triage.
- Knowledge of Milliman Criteria and InterQual Criteria.
Responsibilities
- Initiate triage for patients presenting in psychiatric crisis to the Emergency Department or arriving from outside facilities.
- Ensure quality triage and appropriate resource management for patients requiring psychiatric assessment, triage, disposition, or crisis management.
- Determine the appropriateness of admission or disposition for patients with potential psychiatric illness.
- Assess psychiatric patients presenting to the Emergency Department, Behavioral Health Unit, or acute care units.
- Ensure regulatory standards for psychiatric admission are met; coordinate with the attending psychiatrist and community resources when the facility cannot meet a patient's care needs.
- Conduct utilization review related to triage and admission to the Behavioral Health Unit.
- Advocate for patients and demonstrate leadership in integrating healthcare providers to support seamless care across the continuum.
