About The Position

The Insurance Verification Specialist is responsible for verifying medical and dental insurances prior to patient appointments and contacting patients regarding any financial information about their appointment. This role is part of the Billing department and operates on a Monday-Friday schedule from 8 am to 5 pm.

Requirements

• High school diploma.
• Up to two years’ experience in a medical or dental office.
• Comprehension of health insurance plans.
• Experience with using online portals to look up patient insurance information.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledgeable with all levels of digital communication and exploration.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA guidelines.
• Attend all staff meetings.
• Communicate professionally with insurance companies and patients.
• Maintain required billing records, reports, and files.
• Ability to examine documents for accuracy and completeness.

Nice To Haves

• College courses/degree in billing is a plus

Responsibilities

• Contact insurance companies daily to verify medical and/or dental benefits for any upcoming new or established patient appointments.
• Completely and accurately fill out a “Patient Insurance Verification Form”.
• Notify patients of any financial obligations or amounts due, prior to their appointment.
• Contact patients if their office visit benefits are not covered by their insurance and review available options for proceeding with the scheduled appointment.
• Obtain a referral or authorization for any appointments that require one, per the patient’s insurance.
