About The Position

The Insurance Verification Specialist verifies patient eligibility, insurance benefits, authorizations, pre-certifications, and payments for all OakBend Medical Center locations. The role protects the financial integrity of OakBend Medical Center by maximizing reimbursement and obtaining required authorizations for services rendered. It ensures each account has complete benefit verifications and appropriate authorizations, explains patient out-of-pocket expenses, and establishes and follows through on financial arrangements, including for uninsured patients.

The specialist contacts patients by phone to discuss amounts due, arrange payments, create estimates of costs due at the time of service, and assist patients with complex insurance plans. The position serves multiple OakBend locations and provides exemplary customer service to internal and external customers.

Requirements

• At least one year of insurance verification experience.
• High school diploma or GED; relevant experience in lieu of a high school diploma or GED will be considered.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Typing speed of 35 words per minute.
• Insurance and benefits knowledge, including authorization expertise and background knowledge of insurance plans.
• Knowledge of payer websites and policies and procedures.
• Analytical thinking, communication and writing skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask.
• Basic Microsoft and Excel experience.
• Ability to perform timely and efficient data entry.

• Maximize reimbursement and obtain authorizations for required services.
• Ensure accounts have complete benefit verifications and appropriate authorizations.
• Explain patients’ out-of-pocket expenses and make and follow through on financial arrangements, including for uninsured patients.
• Contact patients by phone to discuss amounts due to the hospital and establish payment arrangements.
• Create estimates of the portion due at the time of service.
• Assist patients with complex insurance plans.
• Protect OakBend Medical Center’s financial health while providing exemplary customer service to internal and external customers.
