About The Position

Christie Clinic's department of Internal Medicine is seeking a full-time Insurance Specialist at the Windsor clinic in Champaign. This role involves obtaining authorizations and predeterminations for various medical services and referrals, updating insurance information, corresponding with personnel regarding insurance status, and providing insurance guidance to team members and providers. The specialist will also act as a liaison between departments, schedule tests and appointments, and maintain the Internal Medicine scheduler work list. Attendance at Christie Clinic sponsored classes for insurance requirement updates is also expected.

Responsibilities

Obtaining all authorizations for all required imaging exams, labs and/or referrals through online insurance sites and through phone calls.
Updating insurance information, authorization status, and any other pertinent information.
Correspondence concerning insurance status or retro authorizations with appropriate personnel.
Check Inbasket regularly for authorization requests or follow up questions from referring offices.
Provide insurance guidance to team members or providers.
Demonstrate understanding of insurance requirements.
Attend Christie Clinic sponsored classes for changes to insurance requirements in the electronic medical record and individual carrier updates.
Act as a liaison between Internal Medicine and other Christie Clinic departments in order to refer patients to specialized providers for internal and external referrals.
Schedule tests, labs, appointments, etc.
Attend and participate in daily, weekly, monthly department huddles.
Maintain Internal Medicine scheduler work list by effectively prioritizing both current and follow up patients.
Maintain an organized work area. (Filing patient orders, routers, etc.)
Perform related work as required.
