About The Position

This position is responsible for investigating complex insurance cases involving alleged violations of the Florida Insurance Code and Department Rules by licensees in the areas of property & casualty insurance, life & health insurance, bail bonds, title, viatical settlements, claims adjusting practices and activities related to unauthorized insurers. The role involves preparing investigative reports in accordance with Bureau standards and expectations. The Insurance Examiner II analyzes complaints and investigates the activities and conduct of insurance agents, adjusters, and other related entities. This includes on-site investigations, review, examination, and evaluation of evidentiary documents obtained pertaining to licenses and the insurance entities they represent. Documents reviewed may include insurance contracts, forms, endorsements, underwritten practices, claims forms, advertising, premium handling, claims handling procedures, licensing requirements, record keeping methods, and other related matters. The position also involves conducting interviews, gathering evidence, taking affidavits, interpreting statutes and rules, and writing comprehensive reports for disciplinary action or prosecution. The role requires interaction with appropriate agencies, divisions, attorneys, law enforcement, and state attorneys when necessary, and providing testimony at hearings and trials. Duties also include maintaining work files, proper usage of state-issued equipment, communicating with licensees and the public, and participating in training to stay updated on relevant statutes and regulations. The examiner will also interact with other governmental agencies to share regulatory information and work cooperatively with management and other investigators on complex cases, providing cross-training and mentoring opportunities. Constructive feedback to team members is expected to promote team effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Experience collecting, evaluating and analyzing data.
  • Experience organizing data into a logical format for presentation.
  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel, when necessary, within the state of Florida and occasionally overnight on short notice.
  • Knowledge of the methods of data collection and analysis.
  • Ability to identify the nature of problems and use logic and analysis to develop different approaches to resolve them.
  • Ability to organize data into logical format for presentation in reports, documents and other written materials.
  • Ability to understand and apply Florida Statutes, rules, and regulations pertaining to insurance matters.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle in a safe manner.
  • Employment starts at the annual salary of $52,530.00.
  • This position requires a security background check, including fingerprints, and a driving record review as a condition of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year or more experience in the insurance industry, or professional work experience related to the insurance business, within the last five (5) years.
  • Experience in writing professional and comprehensive reports.
  • Experience applying the Florida Statutes, rules and regulations directly or indirectly relating to insurance matters.
  • Post-secondary degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in insurance or risk management.
