This role is for individuals who have a desire to meet new people, develop new contacts, become known in their community, and are passionate about serving their community. It's an opportunity to grow sales, business, and networking skills, and control your own income. If you've wanted to start your own business but were deterred by extreme start-up costs, this is an opportunity to learn more about becoming a Shelter Insurance Agent. Shelter does not require previous insurance industry background; many new agents have backgrounds in real estate, retail sales, education, and coaching. A motivated attitude, entrepreneurial spirit, and skilled capacity for effectively communicating with clients in a sales atmosphere are required. While sales experience and a degree with general business courses are helpful, new agent training schools (in-house and virtual) and continuing education courses provide the necessary foundation. Shelter does not require prospective agents to have capital/assets on hand, nor do they "sell" or "loan" money to agents to begin their business. The only expectations are meeting sufficient sales requirements and core business proficiencies. Financial responsibilities are limited to unsatisfied bills owed upon departure (e.g., advertising, telephone, utilities). A true business owner's mindset is required. While developing prospects and selling Shelter products is the main focus, there may be opportunities to bring on staff for administrative duties and sales support.
