About The Position

This role requires a good working knowledge of shipboard insulation systems and familiarity with applicable commercial and military specifications. The insulator will read blueprints, select appropriate insulation materials, and apply them to various structures including piping, bulkheads, overheads, and air ducts. This includes applying metal sheathing and insulation to hot and cold pipes and exhaust pipes. The job also involves preparing surfaces with adhesives or pins, measuring and cutting insulation, fitting and securing it, and covering or sealing the insulation with protective materials. Operation of a pin welder is also part of the responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Four (4) years of marine insulating experience.
  • Able to read and interpret standard construction drawings, specifications, and other technical publications.

  • One (1) year of continuous Company experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Read blueprints and select required insulation material (in sheet, tubular, or roll form).
  • Apply metal to piping, bulkheads and overheads, and penetrations requiring metal sheathing.
  • Apply insulation to air ducts, hot and cold pipes, and exhaust pipes.
  • Brush adhesives on or attach metal adhesive-backed pins to facilitate application of insulation material.
  • Measure and cut insulation material to specified size and shape.
  • Fit, wrap, or attach required insulation material around or to structure, following blueprint specifications.
  • Cover or seal insulation with preformed plastic covers, canvas strips, sealant, or tape to secure insulation to structure.
  • Set up and operate pin welder.
