About The Position

Manufacturing Operations is accepting online applications for the position of Entry Level Instrumentation Mechanic located in the Richmond Refinery, California through October 30th, 2026 at 11:59 PM (PT). This role involves inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical systems, including fixed and rotating equipment, engines, pumps, generators, compressors, piping, valves, and vessels. The position also focuses on identifying and implementing improvements related to reliability, integrity, economics, carbon reduction, and safety for these systems. The role is considered entry-level, with opportunities to gain knowledge of work procedures and practices under general supervision.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to train and become proficient in the use of electrical test equipment (such as multi-meter, signal generators, and communicators, etc.).
  • Must be able to obtain a TWIC card within 3 months of employment.
  • Ability to safely and effectively utilize hand, power, and precision tools.
  • Ability to read instrumentation drawings such as P&IDs and schematics.
  • Must be able to take initiative and work independently.
  • Ability to plan and organize own work.
  • Ability to display a comprehensive understanding of refinery policies and procedures.
  • Ability to grasp complex issues and apply good problem-solving skills to develop recommendations/solutions.

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of refining or petrochemical experience.
  • 5+ years working in refinery.
  • Journey-Level Electrician – Must be able to provide proof through State and/or Trade Certification.
  • Protective relay certification.
  • Power Circuit Breaker certification.
  • Electrical Technology certification.
  • Lineman experience.

Responsibilities

  • Proper performance of work within reasonable time limits and in accordance with established procedures, regulations, safe practices, and all applicable codes.
  • Works in Process Plant and Instrument Shop environments.
  • Performs troubleshooting, preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Disassembles, repairs, assembles, and installs instrumentation equipment as required.
  • Maintains and repairs control systems and equipment, which can include both analog and digital devices.
  • Troubleshoots industrial instrumentation transmitters, electro-mechanical, and pneumatic systems.
  • Safely and effectively utilizes hand, power, and precision tools.
  • Makes necessary craft computations and uses a computer.
  • Reads instrumentation drawings such as P&IDs and schematics.
  • Takes initiative and works independently; plans and organizes own work.
  • Estimates labor and materials and ensures the safe and economic use of resources.
  • Increases efficiency and reduces costs.
  • Displays a comprehensive understanding of refinery policies and procedures.
  • Grasps complex issues and applies good problem-solving skills to develop recommendations/solutions.
  • Builds positive working relationships with operators and other crafts, both internally and externally to Chevron.
