About The Position

We are seeking an Instrumentation & Electrical (I/E) Technician to support safe and reliable plant operations through the troubleshooting, calibration, maintenance, and repair of instrumentation, analyzers, control systems, and electrical equipment. This role supports both planned and unplanned outages and provides after-hours support as required. This position is an existing position with a hourly wage range of $57.61 - $66.94.

Requirements

  • Instrumentation & Control Engineering Technologist diploma, required.
  • Proven experience installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and refurbishing instrumentation and electrical devices
  • Experience in a continuous industrial operating environment
  • Proficiency with I/E tools and equipment (meters, calibration tools, electrical test equipment, etc.)
  • Strong computer/technical skills, including HMI systems
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, SWDs, and single-line diagrams
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to analyze and resolve technical issues
  • Motivated self-starter; able to manage multiple tasks and priorities
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Availability to work overtime and weekends as required
  • Ability to meet physical demands (lift up to 25 kg, climb stairs and ladders)
  • Ability to work in noisy industrial environments, confined spaces, cold weather, and at heights
  • Ability to wear required PPE, including respirators
  • Ability to be trained on mobile equipment (forklift, aerial work platforms) and programs such as first aid, fall arrest, rigging, and hoisting
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract required.

Nice To Haves

  • Industrial Electrician License would be considered an asset.
  • TSSA Refrigeration Operator or Operating Engineer Certification would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley PLC and ControlLogix (asset)

Responsibilities

  • Understand, assess, troubleshoot, refurbish, and maintain pneumatic and electronic instrumentation, electrical, and analytical equipment.
  • Calibrate and functionally check instrumentation, analyzers, control systems, and control elements.
  • Assess and resolve instrumentation and electrical issues based on priority and operational impact.
  • Diagnose and correct control loop input/output issues (e.g., 4–20 mA, 3–15 psi).
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and correct electrical system issues up to 600V.
  • Apply knowledge of high-voltage switchgear control systems and rack breakers in/out (4160V and 13.8kV).
  • Calibrate and maintain process analyzers, including (but not limited to): thermal conductivity, flame ionization, paramagnetic, electrolytic, fuel cell, and gas chromatography analyzers.
  • Plan and perform maintenance on: Electrical and electronic control systems, Pneumatic instrumentation and control valves, Motor control systems, Low-voltage electrical distribution, Computer interfaces and analytical equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, repair, or replace automatic control valves.
  • Follow safe work permit processes, policies, and procedures; maintain strong safety and environmental awareness at all times.
  • Optimize work activities during planned and unplanned equipment outages.
  • Communicate with OEM vendors, contractors, and suppliers; provide technical input with engineering and reliability teams.
  • Coordinate and guide contract personnel on scope, site safety rules, and policy requirements to ensure compliance.
  • Create and update work orders in a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Ensure spare parts are available and replaced as required.
  • Work at heights as needed (ladders, stairs, aerial work platforms) to access instrumentation and control valves.
  • Respond to after-hours plant support requests.
  • Operate a company vehicle (valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract required).
  • Support training and development of new employees.
