About The Position

The Instrumentation Controls Engineer is a member of the Engineering & Operations team and reports directly to the Platform Director of Instrumentation and Controls. The role supports district energy plants producing hot water, chilled water, and steam, as well as their energy transfer stations. It includes assisting with the repair, maintenance, and retrofit of instrumentation and controls; designing and maintaining systems; and maintaining and programming process-control instrumentation, distributed control systems (DCS), and peripherals. The engineer will work extensively with JCI-Metasys, Allen-Bradley PLCs, and other logic controllers, and must be able to program, troubleshoot, and maintain instruments and controllers using plain English structured text, sequential function chart, function block diagram, and ladder logic. The posting describes a contract-to-hire position based onsite in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It seeks a self-starter who works well in a fast-paced environment, is committed to deadlines and teamwork, is process-oriented, takes ownership of their work, and has intellectual curiosity and a strong controls and instrumentation foundation.

  • Working knowledge of industrial control systems, including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and DCS.
  • Familiarity with PLC and DCS programming, logic development, troubleshooting, testing, and implementation of control-system modifications.
  • Understanding of process-control fundamentals, including PID control strategies, control-loop tuning, and process-optimization techniques.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation technologies including flow, pressure, temperature, level, and analytical measurement devices, control valves, and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
  • Experience with industrial communication networks and protocols such as EtherNet/IP (CIP), Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP/IP, OPC UA, and serial communications.
  • Ability to troubleshoot instrumentation, electrical systems, control systems, and industrial communications networks.
