About The Position

Provide instrument engineering expertise at the ExxonMobil site in Baytown, Tx. The work includes engineering design, configuration, programming, maintenance, trouble-shooting, failure analysis, performance analysis in support of safe and reliable operations of instrumentation equipment within the Complex.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronic, or related Engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in the petrochemical, refining, or chemical industry.
  • Knowledge of process measurement technologies including pressure, temperature, level, and flow.
  • Experience specifying and applying instrumentation, control valves, and shutdown systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs and familiarity with ISA/API standards.
  • Understanding of field instrumentation, signal transmission, communications, and process safety requirements.
  • Experience troubleshooting instrumentation and control systems and resolving field issues.
  • Working knowledge of DCS, SIS, and industrial control systems from major vendors (e.g., Honeywell, Emerson, Yokogawa, Schneider Electric, HIMA).
  • Familiarity with safety design principles, HAZOPs, risk assessments, SIL processes, and hazardous area classifications.
  • Strong understanding of equipment specifications, standards, and reliability strategies.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) or similar engineering software.
  • Knowledge of SCADA, industrial networking, and system integration.
  • Familiarity with Industrial Control Systems Cybersecurity (ICS/OT Security).
  • Experience with machinery and fired equipment control and monitoring systems.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Sizing and specifying various types of instrumentation for new or existing instruments undergoing a change
  • Supporting the maintenance team and interfacing with vendors and contractors to maintain, troubleshoot, repair/replace, configure/tune/program, test/commission/de-commission, etc.
  • Supporting development of equipment strategies, understanding the impact of equipment sparing, redundancy, reliability, availability, maintainability, and maintenance cost in support of operations excellence and capital efficiency
  • Participating in activities related to safety, risk assessment and safety incident investigations related to instrumentation equipment.
