Instrumentation & Controls Engineer II

DeltaHawk EnginesRacine, WI
Onsite

About The Position

This individual will work in DeltaHawk’s test department to design, assemble, install, and maintain data acquisition and control systems for R&D and production. These systems will test the proper operation of combustion engines and their individual components by controlling motors, valves, heaters, fans, and relays while measuring parameters such as pressure, temperature, flow rate, torque, and speed.

Requirements

  • BS in Electrical or Automation and Controls Engineering (or equivalent) and 3+ years of experience or 8+ years experience working with data acquisition and control systems.
  • Experience with PID loop control.
  • Experience with PLC’s or data acquisition and control modules such as analog input/output and digital input/output.
  • Experience with instrumentation such as thermocouples, pressure transducers, flow transducers, and Hall effect sensors.
  • Experience with electrical test equipment such as oscilloscopes, frequency generators, power supplies, and DMM’s.
  • Experience with a programming language or framework such as Python, C++, or Arduino.
  • Experience with IT equipment such as routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Experience with electrical connectors, control panel assembly, and soldering.
  • Can work effectively within a team to leverage the strengths of others to achieve goals.
  • Must be driven to acquire whatever knowledge or experience is needed to succeed.
  • Ability to communicate effectively within a large team as well as to business leadership.
  • Exceptionally strong attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

  • Passion for aviation.
  • Comfortable working with 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks.
  • Familiar with applying standards such as NFPA 70, NFPA 79, UL 509A, ISO 13849, IEC/ISA 62443 or similar.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safe operation of data acquisition and control systems through standards and best practices.
  • Select and implement instrumentation for the required measurement parameters such as accuracy, range, environmental requirements, output signal type or communication protocol.
  • Select and implement data acquisition and control modules such as analog input/output, digital input/output, and temperature to interface with the control and instrumentation devices based on parameters such as acquisition speed, resolution, range, power requirements, environmental requirements, and communication protocol.
  • Select and implement control panel parts such as electrical enclosures, connectors, terminal blocks, and circuit breakers based on parameters such as size, power requirements, quantity and type of inputs and outputs, and environmental requirements.
  • Select and configure network components such as routers, switches, and firewalls to provide secure and robust communication between system components, workstations, and test stations.
  • Develop software for PC’s and PLC’s to provide test system control and data to operators using HMI’s and GUI applications.
  • Create and maintain documentation such as wiring diagrams, bill of materials, hardware and software descriptions for each test system.
  • Train staff on the proper use of the test systems.
  • Maintain good judgment in a fast-paced environment with a strong sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines.
