About The Position

The Instrumentation, Controls, and Electrical (IC&E) Technician is responsible for maintaining safe, reliable, and efficient operations at Fairview Energy Center by calibrating, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and installing plant instrumentation, control systems, and electrical equipment. Working closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and the Lead IC&E Technician, this role performs preventive and corrective maintenance on GE 7HA.02 gas turbines, the steam turbine, plant electrical systems, and associated controls to support reliable plant performance.

Requirements

  • An Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Instrumentation and Control, Electronics Technology, Industrial Electrical Technology, or a related technical field is preferred. Equivalent technical training or relevant industrial or military experience will also be considered.
  • Experience in power generation or industrial facilities preferred, with familiarity in combined-cycle plant operations, safety practices, and maintenance programs.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience troubleshooting and repairing high-voltage electrical systems, including switchgear, motors, motor control centers, transformers, batteries, chargers, inverters, and generator excitation systems.
  • Comprehensive experience calibrating, maintaining, and troubleshooting plant instrumentation and control systems, including gas turbines, steam turbines, control valves, transmitters, analyzers, and associated field devices.
  • Working knowledge of PLC, DCS, SCADA, and turbine control systems, including combustion controls, burner management systems, condition monitoring, and boiler control systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to install, calibrate, inspect, and maintain instrumentation and electrical equipment while supporting plant testing, commissioning, and system modifications.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot equipment, analyze control system performance, and support initiatives that enhance plant reliability, efficiency, and availability.
  • Experience working with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, contractors, and vendors to safely execute maintenance activities, outages, and plant projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the analytical aptitude to document work, interpret technical information, and communicate recommendations effectively.
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Calibrate, test, maintain, troubleshoot, and install plant instrumentation and control systems, including control valves, transmitters, analyzers, motors, variable speed drives, fan dampers, and associated field devices.
  • Perform corrective, preventive, predictive, and emergency maintenance on plant electrical equipment, including 6.9kv switchgear, motor control centers, motors, transformers, batteries, chargers, inverters, and main generator excitation systems.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair PLC, DCS, SCADA, and other plant automation systems by diagnosing faults, implementing approved program changes, and supporting reliable system performance.
  • Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot GE 7HA.02 gas turbine, steam turbine, and associated control systems, including turbine controls, combustion controls, burner management systems, and condition monitoring equipment.
  • Assist with plant testing, commissioning, and system modifications by installing new equipment, verifying control functionality, and ensuring compliance with technical standards and safe work practices.
  • Work with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and contractors to execute maintenance activities, outages, and projects while minimizing equipment downtime.
  • Monitor equipment performance, analyze operational data, and support reliability and control system improvement initiatives that enhance plant efficiency, availability, and equipment life.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance documentation, including calibration records, repair history, plant drawings, work orders, equipment databases, and vendor documentation.
  • Maintain shop tools, test equipment, and specialized instrumentation, ensuring equipment remains clean, calibrated, and ready for use.
  • Follow all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements by identifying hazards, implementing corrective actions, and properly handling and disposing of hazardous materials and regulated waste.
  • Perform other duties, special projects, and technical assignments as required to support safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations.
