Under the Director of the Public Utilities Manager-WWTP, this employee is responsible for the administration of all instrumentation, computer control, and electrical systems for the Department of Public Utilities-WWTP. This employee supervises subordinate personnel engaged in planning, installing, and maintaining the instrumentation, computer control, and electrical systems within the water and wastewater treatment facilities, raw water wells, elevated tanks, collection and storm water pumping stations, SCADA system, and local and wide area networks. The Instrumentation Control & Electrical Manager exercises extensive initiative and independent judgment in solving problems as they develop in order to maintain the continuous, effective, efficient, and safe operation of the instrumentation, computer control, and electrical systems within the Public Utilities Department. Technical and computer expertise is of prime importance as errors in technical judgment could result in extensive damage to the environment, facilities, or both. Duties include enforcing safety precautions for employee and operational staff, implementing preventive maintenance programs, and estimating costs for instrumentation, computer control, and electrical systems projects. Work is performed with wide latitude in the use of independent judgment and selection of work methods and procedures. Work is reviewed through conferences, reports, and observation of the operational success of the instrumentation, computer control, and electrical systems and achievement of objectives. This is an essential position, which requires incumbents to report to work during catastrophic events. In case of such an event, incumbents may be required to work 12-hour shifts, seven days a week to help provide essential services to our customers.
