About The Position

Perform calibration, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and repair on a variety of gas analyzers and analytical instrumentation in continuous emission monitoring systems. Maintain all logs and required documentation repairs and preventative maintenance. Independently work on assignments that are moderately complex in which experience and knowledge is required to calibrate instruments and resolve problems and follow quality assurance and quality control procedures for the equipment. Perform tests and accurately provide appropriate documentation of results on all CEM’s equipment for EPA compliance and auditing purposes.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • A minimum of 3 years as Instrumentation/CEMS Technician Required
  • Must have a working knowledge of P&ID’s, Cascade Loops, Pneumatic valve operations, Controllers, Digital signals, Transmitter minimum voltages, Calibration techniques, and Actuators
  • Experience with continuous emission monitoring systems (CEMS) or be able to acquire quickly knowledge of CEMS
  • Must have or be able to acquire quickly knowledge of the environmental compliance requirements of 40 CFR Part 75, 40 CFR Part 60, SCAQMD RELCAIM, and various State or Local rules related to CEMS Maintenance and Quality Control and Quality assurance
  • Experience maintaining, troubleshooting, testing, and servicing industrial electrical instrumentation and controls, as well as basic mechanical skills
  • Familiar with and able to use various test equipment such as multi meters, flow meters, and electronic test equipment in order to calibrate and troubleshoot instruments
  • Experience reading electrical prints and manuals
  • Experience with microcomputer and related software
  • Thorough knowledge, skill and hands-on trouble-shooting and repair experience relating to instrumentation used in refineries
  • Must have basic understanding of electrical and electronic instrumentation operating principals
  • Able to troubleshoot and resolve field instrumentation and control problems
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer either Journeyman Electrical, Journeyman Instrument Technician; or related field
  • Proficient (perform with limited assistance) with Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Ideal candidate will have experience of and work with all aspects of a CEM system and will have experience with the operation of various analyzer platforms from common manufacturers such as: ABB, Siemens, Rosemount, Teledyne, Thermo
  • Prefer a broad understanding of refinery operations

Responsibilities

  • Providing electrical and instrumentation support to maintain equipment and facilities in a manner that is safe, efficient and environmentally sound
  • Participating in project planning including P&ID development and Cause & Effects Development
  • Performing all duties in compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental, applicable government regulations, and industry best practices
  • Installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining electrical, pneumatic, process controls and new equipment as projects dictate
  • Tests accuracy of flowmeters, pressure gauges, temperature indicators, controllers, radiation counters or detectors, and other recording, indicating or controlling instruments to locate defective components in system, using test equipment, such as pressure gauges, mercury manometers, potentiometers, pulse and signal generators, oscilloscopes, transistor curve tracers, and ammeters, voltmeters, and watt-meters
  • Traces out and test electronic solid state and vacuum tube circuitry and components to locate defective parts in analog and digital, protection, or radiation monitoring systems, using test equipment, schematics, and maintenance manuals
  • Removes defective instruments from system, decontaminates, dissembles, and cleans instruments, and replaces defective parts, using hand tools
  • Reassembles instruments and replaces instruments in system, using hand tools
  • Lubricates instruments and replaces defective wiring and tubing
  • Records calibrations made, parts and components used, and inventory of parts on hand
  • Prepares schematic drawings, sketches, and reports to reflect changes or alterations made in instruments, circuits, and systems
  • Understands logic diagrams, electrical and mechanical drawings and sketches, and other written instructions
  • Performs preventative maintenance on assigned equipment
  • Trouble shoots and analyzes instrument, control, and metering problems and takes appropriate action to correct deficiencies

  • Maintains records of readings and test results for all assigned equipment
  • Maintains records and files of readings and data taken during preventive maintenance
  • Regularly communicate with supervisor work progress, concerns and questions
