About The Position

Rio Tinto is seeking an Instrumentation & Electrical Superintendent to lead their team responsible for critical electrical and automation systems at one of their key industrial operations in Boron, California. This leadership role focuses on building a strong safety-first culture, developing supervisors and craftspeople, and maximizing the performance, reliability, and safety of operations. The position involves daily field engagement with supervisors, collaboration with operations and technical teams to solve challenges, and rapid decision-making during unexpected events. The goal is to create a safer, more efficient operation while supporting team growth.

Requirements

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related technical discipline
  • Leadership experience in mining, manufacturing, refining, or other heavy industrial environments
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, instrumentation, and maintenance best practices
  • Experience with industrial control systems including PLCs, HMIs, Drives, and SCADA platforms
  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively and lead diverse, cross-functional teams

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of MSHA regulations and mining industry requirements
  • Experience leading large maintenance or reliability teams
  • A track record of driving continuous improvement initiatives and operational excellence

  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and value generation
  • Partner with technical specialists and cross-functional teams to solve complex operational challenges
  • Coach and mentor team members to support growth, engagement, and high performance
  • Promote effective problem-solving, decision-making, and accountability at all levels
  • Build a culture of ownership, care, and pride in facility operations and maintenance
  • Ensure work is executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company and regulatory requirements
