Instrumentation and Control Technician

TractionToronto, ON
$35 - $45

About The Position

We are seeking a highly analytical Instrumentation and Control Technician to join our industrial operations team. This position is tailored for a technical expert who holds or is looking to finish their requirements to achieve their Red Seal Endorsement (RSE). In an increasingly automated industrial landscape, you are the guardian of precision. Whether you are a certified Journeyperson or a senior apprentice in your final year, you will be expected to work to the Red Seal Occupational Standard (RSOS), ensuring that the complex systems used to monitor and control industrial processes are accurate, safe, and efficient.

Requirements

  • Certification Status: Must be a Journeyperson or a Senior Apprentice currently looking to finish their requirements to achieve their Red Seal Endorsement (RSE).
  • Technical Proficiency: Deep understanding of process control theory (PID loops), electronics, and fluid mechanics. Familiarity with platforms like Emerson DeltaV, Honeywell, or Allen-Bradley.
  • Mathematical Competency: Proficiency in "Trade Math" for calculating signal conversions (4-20mA), square root extraction, and unit scaling.
  • Problem-Solving: Exceptional ability to diagnose root causes in multi-variable systems under production pressure.
  • Physical Capability: Ability to work in varied industrial settings, climb ladders, and handle delicate components with precision.

Responsibilities

  • Installation & Configuration: Install, configure, and bench-test industrial instruments including transmitters, controllers, and analyzers. Set up communication protocols (HART, Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus).
  • Calibration & Maintenance: Perform routine and precision calibration of sensors and transducers for pressure, temperature, level, and flow. Maintain final control elements such as control valves, actuators, and positioners.
  • Automation & Logic: Troubleshooting and programming Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs).
  • Process Analysis: Monitor and optimize loop tuning to improve process stability. Calibrate and maintain specialized analytical equipment for gas, liquid, and environmental monitoring.
  • Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS): Ensure the integrity of safety-critical systems. Participate in proof-testing and documentation of safety loops to meet provincial and national regulatory standards.
  • Blueprints & Documentation: Interpret and update P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), loop drawings, and electrical schematics. Maintain meticulous calibration records and maintenance logs.
  • Mentorship: If certified, provide technical instruction and sign off on competencies for junior apprentices. If finishing requirements, work with our Journeypersons to master Major Work Activities (MWAs) such as advanced analytical instrumentation and complex control strategies.

Benefits

  • The Path to Completion: For those finishing their RSE, we offer exposure to the full instrumentation loop—from primary sensing elements to final control elements—to ensure you are prepared for the Interprovincial Exam.
  • Premium Compensation: Top-tier wages that reflect the specialized technical knowledge and high level of responsibility required in this trade.
  • National Mobility: An RSE credential that is your passport to work in refineries, power plants, water treatment facilities, and manufacturing hubs across Canada.
