About The Position

The Instrument Technician is responsible for installing, calibrating, and maintaining instruments and control systems. This role involves diagnosing and troubleshooting issues, performing regular tests and inspections, and interpreting technical documentation. The technician may also modify or fabricate instrumentation, assemble test panels, and maintain records of repairs and calibrations. A strong understanding of Instrument/Electrical manuals, drawings, and specifications is required, along with special skills in the installation and maintenance of related equipment and systems. The position may involve recommending system upgrades for improved efficiency and safety.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree (AA) or equivalent from a 2-year college or technical school preferred. Or 4+ years related experience and/or training, or a combination of experience and education.
  • Minimum of 4+ years’ experience in plant process operations.
  • Ability to use hand tools and testing devices.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in workload priorities.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to learn new software/new information when necessary.
  • High level of proficiency in the English language, both in verbal and written form.
  • Ability to walk, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, turn, reach, lift, and climb.
  • Ability to climb ladders and be at heights of 80 -100 feet.
  • Ability to lift up to 75lbs.
  • Ability and dexterity to manipulate various size components from valves to small electrical switches to computer keyboards.
  • Ability to work extended hours when required.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather.
  • Ability to travel by car domestically 1% - 5% of the time.

Nice To Haves

  • Thorough knowledge and interpretation of Instrument/Electrical manuals, drawings, specification layout and blueprints.
  • Special skills in installation and maintenance of Instrument/ Electrical equipment and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Installing, calibrating, and maintaining instruments and control systems.
  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting issues with existing systems.
  • Performing regular tests and inspections to ensure optimal operation of instruments.
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Testing new or repaired instrumentation on test stand or other devices.
  • Modifying or fabricating instrumentation as needed for the facility.
  • Planning, constructing, and assembling test panels for experimental production testing.
  • Keeping records on repair and calibration of instruments.
  • Recommending modifications or upgrades to improve system efficiency and safety.
