About The Position

Reporting to the Director of Separation Science, the Instrument Technician will be responsible for performing duties related to the general maintenance of HPLC, UPLC, MS, GC, lyophilizers, flash purification and other laboratory instruments. Your role will be to support the scientists and the company at large in all aspects relevant to scientific instrumentation and equipment. This can range from preventative or corrective maintenance, repair, and replacement/installation. The role requires technical intuition and curiosity. The technician should be comfortable with a variety of technical areas such as mechanical, electronic and fluidic (e.g., HPLC). They should be comfortable seeking out information independently in areas where they lack initial knowledge. As issues can arise quickly, the technician must be able to manage and assign priority as needed. Strong communication skills are necessary to communicate with the staff, external third-party service engineer or instrument provider.

Requirements

  • Bachelor or master of science or technical diploma in electronics with experience in instrumentation repairs
  • Up to 4 years of experience
  • Experience on the operation, maintenance and repair of HPLC/UPLC/GC (LC-MS, LCUV) with Agilent and/or Waters and/or Shimadzu
  • Attention to detail and safety at work
  • Curiosity, ability to learn quickly and autonomous
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good command of French and English language

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and preventive or corrective maintenance on HPLC/UPLC/GC instruments from Agilent, Waters or Shimadzu (i.e., fixing leaks, lamp change, pump seal change, MS ionization source cleaning, pump oil change, etc.)
  • Perform basic maintenance of NMR (liquid nitrogen refill, samples sorting)
  • Perform scale calibration
  • Provide troubleshooting and support for users on analytical instruments or flash apparatus
  • Perform failure analysis on recurring problems and provide solutions to reduce instrument failure and down time
  • When appropriate, repair various instruments such as HPLC or flash chromatography systems
  • Order all kits and replacement parts associated with instruments maintenance
  • Key person with external service engineer for installations or expertise service
  • Maintain the inventory of spare parts updated
  • Keep the record of instrument maintenance in a logbook
  • Can be asked to perform analysis if needed
  • Keep instrument workstation updated (software update, raw data archiving)
