About The Position

Petro-Hunt, L.L.C. is seeking an Instrument Technician for its Little Knife Gas Plant location. The Little Knife Gas Plant gathers gas from oil production units, compresses it, strips it of Hydrogen Sulfide, dehydrates it, chills it to -85 degrees through refrigeration and cryogenics, separates the gas from the liquids, and then fractionates the liquids to make propane, butane, and NGLs. Natural gas is sold via pipeline, and liquids are transported out via transport trucks. The Instrument Technician will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of instrument apparatus, analyzers, and control systems for this natural gas processing facility. This will require tuning and monitoring the performance of plant instruments, including mechanical, electronic pneumatic, and safety systems. The facility operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The selected candidate will initially train as an operator and, upon becoming proficient, will acquire a full-time position as an instrument technician. Assistance may be required with larger projects for the maintenance group.

Requirements

  • Must be willing and capable of working callouts, unusual work hours, in and around hydrogen sulfide, sweet gas, LPG equipment and in all kinds of weather conditions.
  • Must have good hearing to be able to hear portable radio communications, H2S monitors and various plant alarms.
  • Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 75 pounds.

  • Cross-training employees is a practice at the Little Knife Plant.
  • The person selected will start out training as an operator.
  • Once proficient in understanding the plant, the employee will acquire a full-time position as an instrument technician.
  • At times, may be asked to assist the maintenance group with larger projects.

Responsibilities

  • Calibration and functional testing of environmental monitors for hydrogen sulfide, flammable gas and fire detection.
  • Maintain, tune, repair and calibrate pneumatic and electronic instrument systems.
  • Repair control valves, regulators and all associated apparatus.
  • Program and maintain the Distributive Control System and its components.
  • Maintain, repair and calibrate various electronic analyzers.
  • Maintain a parts inventory for each type of instrument.
  • Install and repair instrumentation tubing.
  • Test and repair pressure and temperature indicators.
  • Participate in our plant mechanical integrity program.
  • Assist on major shut down and repair projects.
  • Test, repair and adjust equipment controls and safeguards.
  • Assist operations department with the tuning and adjustment of pneumatic and electronic controllers (temperature, level, pressure and flow).
  • Follow plant safety programs such as Lockout / Tag out, safe handling of chemicals (Right-To-Know), spill plan and other Safety Programs.
  • Wear 30 minute self-contained breathing apparatus in any hazardous vapor environment or for emergency rescue.
  • Clean assigned areas.
