The position also requires some knowledge of electrical schematics and PLCs. Other duties may be assigned. Work includes building control panels from scratch; installing and mounting instruments; installing tubing and impulse lines; terminating junction boxes; and performing basic conduit work. The technician reads and interprets P&IDs, loop diagrams, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams; calibrates pressure, temperature, flow, and level instruments; maintains and troubleshoots control valves; and performs instrument loop checks and signal verification. Troubleshooting duties include diagnosing instrument and control system failures, identifying wiring and electrical issues, verifying sensor outputs, determining root causes, and distinguishing electrical, mechanical, and process-related problems. The role also involves basic PLC and process-control-loop knowledge, HMI operation, electrical fundamentals and measurements, multimeter use, loop checks, and motor controls such as starters, relays, contactors, and VFDs.
