About The Position

The Instrument Technician will work primarily in the field on control, topographic surveys, and pipeline surveys as Rod Person/Instrument Tech of a two or three-person field crew at an assigned worksite. This role requires the ability to perform mathematical calculations, field checking of data, and understanding of plans and specifications. The technician will also be responsible for maintaining line-of-sight by cutting brush, locating survey monuments by digging, holding and plumbing rods for measurements, and driving stakes for construction projects. Providing quality customer service and demonstrating safe working methods for tools and equipment are also key aspects of the position.

Requirements

• Must be experienced in controlling the function of surveying instruments and calculators.
• Possess excellent interpersonal skills and effective written and oral communication skills.
• Must be physically able to work long hours and carry heavy loads.
• Relocation is required.
• Must be able to work in inclement weather.
• Attendance, punctuality, and reliability are essential requirements.
• Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record required.
• Must be able to pass a background check.
• Must have the ability to pass a pre-employment DOT drug screening.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

• A minimum of 1-year total survey field experience is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Cut and remove brush and undergrowth for line-of-sight.
• Performs mathematical calculations and field checking of field data.
• Read and understand plans and specifications.
• Know basic sources of measurement errors.
• Dig ground using a pick, shovel, and other hand tools to search for and locate survey monuments.
• Hold and plum rod in obtaining elevations and distances.
• Drive stakes to set grades on construction projects.
• Provide quality customer service.
• Know, understand, and demonstrate safe working/operating methods of assigned tools and equipment.
