About The Position

Instrument Technician will be responsible for installing, repairing, maintaining, and calibrating electronic equipment and gauges that control, regulate, and/or monitor a mechanical system. This role involves inspecting, testing, adjusting, and repairing electric, electronic, mechanical, and pneumatic instruments and systems used in chemical manufacturing processes. The technician will analyze instrument calibrations, perform maintenance and repairs on various probes and monitors, and work with instrument tubing fitting and bending. They will also be responsible for calibrating instrument readings according to standards, preparing schematic drawings, and learning about unfamiliar instrumentation.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience in instrumentation.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Ability to work on low and high pressure tubing/piping systems.
  • Must have tools (see tool list below).
  • Ability to work with precision instruments and tools.
  • Current TWIC Card.
  • Valid Driver License.
  • Willingness to follow all company and project work policies and procedures.
  • NCCER - Industrial Instrument Technician certification.
  • NCCER Plus certification.
  • Ability to perform large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting and lifting.
  • Ability to use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls and tools.
  • Ability to lift, carry and move up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to work at heights and climb ladders and stairways as well as work on elevated platforms.
  • Ability to work at heights up to 300’ utilizing proper fall protection.
  • Capability of working outside in the elements including heat, cold, rain, snow and wind.
  • Requirement to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limiting to hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, fall arrest harness, face shield, ear plugs, and goggles.

Responsibilities

  • Installing, repairing, maintaining, and calibrating electronic equipment and gauges.
  • Inspecting, testing, adjusting, and repairing electric, electronic, mechanical, and pneumatic instruments and systems.
  • Inspecting meters, indicators, and gauges to detect causes of abnormal fluctuations.
  • Testing accuracy of flowmeters, pressure gauges, temperature indicators, controllers, and other recording, indicating, or controlling instruments.
  • Tracing and testing electrical and electronic solid state components to locate defective parts.
  • Removing defective instruments, decontaminating, disassembling, cleaning, and replacing defective parts.
  • Performing instrument installation and loop checking.
  • Performing SIS Instrument Calibrations.
  • Analyzing instrument calibrations (e.g., PH probes, LEL detectors, CO monitors) including maintenance/repair.
  • Performing instrument tubing fitting/bending (Process Tubing, air, etc.).
  • Lubricating instruments and replacing defective wiring and tubing.
  • Calibrating instrument readings according to standards and adjusting phasing and aligning stages.
  • Recording calibrations made, parts and components used, and inventory of parts on hand.
  • Preparing schematic drawings, sketches, and reports to reflect changes or alterations made in instruments, circuits, and systems.
  • Learning about unfamiliar instrumentation.
