The Instrument Technician Lead Certified is responsible for the care, cleaning, handling, and reprocessing of instruments and equipment. This role decontaminates instruments and equipment to hospital and regulatory guidelines. It assembles and wraps trays for sterilization following procedures and loads and operates sterilizers. The role uses knowledge of instrumentation, blood and body fluid precautions, disinfection techniques, and methods of sterilization to perform quality assurance monitoring and documents according to policy and procedures. This role is also responsible for providing coordination and assembly of surgery case carts. It accurately completes inventory lists for trays and surgeon preference cards, signs, and dates. The role reviews instrument and inventory supplies, restocks, proactively identifies supply/instrumentation needs, gathers supplies needed for a specific case, and assists with O.R. sterilization processes. Knowledge of supplies, instrumentation, disinfection techniques, and methods of sterilization is required. Performs other duties as assigned. Additionally, the Instrument Technician Lead Certified serves as the point person on each shift, prioritizes tasks and coordinates the assembly of surgery case carts. Performs complex tasks and trains new employees, acting as an educator to other techs. Completes expert-level trays and assists in process changes and process improvement initiatives in the department. May handle scheduling and shift coverage.
