About The Position

As an Instrument Person at LJA Surveying, you will be responsible for transporting and setting up instruments and equipment associated with surveying land and preparing job site for survey. A typical day might include receiving direction from the Party Chief, transporting and setting up instruments and equipment, clearing brush or trees away from the survey line, laying out stakes to prepare for elevation measurements, holding the prism pole steady for the surveyor to help determine elevations of different points, measuring horizontal distances between points, and assisting with various pieces of survey equipment.

Requirements

• HS Graduate or GED
• Strong communication skills both oral and written
• Ability to build strong relationships with internal and external clients
• Some travel

Responsibilities

• Transport and set up instruments and equipment associated with surveying land and preparing job site for survey
• Clear brush or trees away from survey line
• Lay out stakes to prepare for elevation measurements
• Hold prism pole steady for the surveyor to help determine elevations of different points
• Measure how far different points are from each other horizontally
• Help with various pieces of survey equipment
