About The Position

The Instrument Fitter will be responsible for supervising, mentoring, and scheduling internal technicians and third-party contractors. This role involves the layout, cutting, bending, and threading of stainless steel, copper, and carbon steel tubing for pneumatic and electrical signal lines. The fitter will interpret complex Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), loop diagrams, control narratives, and schematics. Additionally, they will perform loop checks, calibrate instruments (transmitters, transducers, controllers), and pressure-test systems to ensure zero-leak integrity. Safety is paramount, requiring daily safety meetings, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and adherence to OSHA and site-specific environmental standards. The role also includes supporting engineering and integration teams with startup, troubleshooting, and validation of automated processes.

Requirements

  • Typically 5+ years of industrial or construction experience in oil & gas, petrochemical, or power generation.
  • Expert proficiency with hand and power tools, tube benders, and calibration equipment.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, at high elevations, and in varying weather conditions.
  • Must be able to perform repetitive hand motions, bending, and twisting.

Nice To Haves

  • NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) Instrumentation credentials or equivalent military/technical training are highly preferred.
