We are looking for an Instrument & Electrical Technician with an emphasis on controls system (SCADA and Terminal Automation) to work closely with the Pipeline and Terminal Managers to optimize the movement of finished petroleum products from the refinery to the terminal customers. You must be a self-motivated, results-driven individual, with the ability to assess situations quickly to make decisions. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with high mechanical and mathematical aptitudes, strong trouble-shooting capabilities, and the ability to work in both a team environment and on self-directed tasks are essential.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of experience in Production, Operations, and/or Maintenance and/or Field Service Maintenance
  • Live within 30 miles of the CHS Minot Terminal or be willing to relocate to a permanent residence
  • High School Degree or equivalent
  • Experience with computers, PLCs, HMIs, calibration devices, and testing equipment
  • Working knowledge of high and low voltage electrical systems, process controls, pumps, and hydraulics
  • Thorough knowledge and training in the areas of mathematics, high and low voltage electrical systems, cathodic protection of steel structures, process controls, pumps, and hydraulics.
  • HAZWOPER certified
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Experience with computers, software, process controllers, and communications equipment
  • Ability to work without direct supervision
  • Strong trouble-shooting and decision making skills
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal
  • Ability to work extended hours as needed to meet business demands
  • Pass pre-employment screenings to include all or a combination of drug, criminal, motor vehicle check, physical requirements and FMCSA Clearinghouse (if required).

Responsibilities

  • Provide support for safe and reliable pipeline and terminal operations in Minot, Fargo, Williston and Grand Forks, ND (or as assigned).
  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot SCADA/Terminal Automation and control systems.
  • Provide 24/7 operational support and provide troubleshooting and general support to terminals and pipeline facilities.
  • Ensure efficient 24/7 operation of loading rack and pipeline facilities by maintaining equipment and control systems.
  • Assist with training of truck drivers as needed.
  • Assess operating problems with consideration of hazards including high voltage, high pressure piping, rotating equipment, chemicals, and flammable materials.
  • Coordinate operational and maintenance items for terminal and pipeline operations.
  • Direct and oversee third party work as needed.
  • Assist with developing project scope of work and budgets.
  • Oversee the construction, installation, and startup of capital or maintenance projects.
  • Participate in safety reviews, training, and emergency response.
  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers and follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including respirators.
  • Provide indirect supervision of operators, maintenance gang members, and other pipeline technicians; and directly supervise contractors as needed.
  • Understand and comply with company policies and procedures. Keep current on related industry practices.
  • Utilize a wide range of electrical monitoring equipment, computers, calibration devices, and testing equipment.
  • Interact with landowners, third party contractors, public officials, and emergency responders to educate about pipeline safety.
  • Perform other duties as needed or assigned.
