Requirements

  • Heat trace testing knowledge using a multi-meter and megohm meter
  • Knowledge of heat trace control panels
  • Knowledge of thermal insulation systems
  • Troubleshooting capabilities
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work through problems in stressful conditions and remain calm.
  • Must have or meet requirements for a TWIC card.
  • Must have NCCER certification or equivalent.
  • Must have NCCER validation or equivalent
  • High school diploma/GED with minimum 5 years petrochemical plant experience as an I&E technician.
  • 2-year technical college diploma or military training in instrumentation, electrical, or electronics, and minimum of 3-years plant experience would be an acceptable substitute for the above requirement.

Nice To Haves

  • Process analyzer skills and experience is a plus.
  • DCS and PLC programming experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Trouble-shoot, calibrate, maintain, and install plant instrumentation and electrical systems and components.
  • Document findings, correct drawings to reflect as-built conditions, and maintain equipment history files and logs.
  • Able to read and interpret instrument and electrical installation drawings, process plant P&ID s, wiring schematics, loop drawings, electrical one-line drawings and component assembly drawings.
  • Able to read and follow technical manuals, specification sheets, maintenance instructions, parts bill of materials, and understand the significance of materials of construction for specific applications.
  • Function check, diagnose, and calibration instrument sensors, transmitters, and control elements for process parameters such as temperature, flow, level, and pressure.
  • Diagnose and maintain electrical and electronics systems and components such as relays, switches, power supplies, motor control circuits, AC/DC motors, variable speed drives, electric tracing, transformers, and wiring.
  • Basic trouble-shooting and component replacement on control system hardware such as DCS and PLC systems.
  • Assist in determining repairs needed by recommending replacement parts, options, and solutions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all environmental, safety, and health policies and safe work practices.
  • Respond to off-hours plant emergencies as a shared responsibility with other technician.
