About The Position

The Instrument Core Technician is responsible for all duties of Instrument Technician as well as performing delegated activities to support the operating room team in the care of the surgical patient in the operating room core(s). Under the supervision of the CSPD Leadership Team, the Instrument Core Technician has direct communication and service liaison responsibility to the operating room. The Instrument Core Technician prepares and delivers medical/surgical supplies, instruments and equipment for surgical procedures. Cleans, packages, and processes surgical equipment and instrumentation and scopes, as well as maintains inventory and storage of supplies in the sterile core. Core Techs are also responsible to communicate the need for the development of case cart requisitions. Practices aseptic technique and may assist with the opening of sterile trays or items as needed and under the direction of the operating room surgical technician and/or circulating nurse. The Instrument Core Tech demonstrates knowledge of clinical applications and has knowledge of surgical technology, utilizing medical and computer applications. Central Service technicians work in compliance with best practices and standards established by: The Joint Commission, AAMI, HSPA, AORN, OSHA, DOT, WHO, FDA, EPA, and HIPPA.

Responsibilities

Performing delegated activities to support the operating room team in the care of the surgical patient in the operating room core(s).
Preparing and delivering medical/surgical supplies, instruments and equipment for surgical procedures.
Cleaning, packaging, and processing surgical equipment and instrumentation and scopes.
Maintaining inventory and storage of supplies in the sterile core.
Communicating the need for the development of case cart requisitions.
Practicing aseptic technique.
