About The Position

Salt Lake Community College seeks to attract a faculty of the highest caliber, skilled in the scholarship of teaching, discovery, application and integration of knowledge. The successful applicant will join a vital and innovative Exercise Science Department. The Exercise Science Department is home to an AS in Kinesiology, AS in Outdoor Adventure Parks and Recreation, AAS in Fitness Technician with additional certificate and credentialing opportunities. Our faculty are reflective practitioners, knowledgeable teachers in their respective fields, participate in professional communities, and collaborate with colleagues across the institution. Our department is dedicated to actively serve our students in successfully obtaining the skills and knowledge needed to be effective in their careers. Assigned teaching course load will be Nutrition Science. The faculty member will be assigned to teach at least one course at Herriman, Jordan, and other campuses as needed, and will be assigned alternative work schedules (e.g. evenings or weekends) with a variable teaching schedule. All faculty are expected to teach classes in accordance with established guidelines and policies (https://faculty.slcc.edu/provost/handbook/index.aspx) (e.g. Academic Freedom, Professional Responsibility and Tenure Policy – Ref#C4S01.01).

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Nutrition (Nutrition Science, Dietetics) or a closely related health field, from an accredited college or university.
  • One semester teaching experience in Nutrition, at the college or university level.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • All employees are expected to maintain a permanent residence within the State of Utah as a condition of employment.
  • New employees must provide a valid Utah residential address within 30 days of their start date.

Nice To Haves

  • Accredited certification/credential (Nutrition, Dietetics, Exercise Science, Performance).
  • Two years (full or part-time) teaching experience in Nutrition, at the college or university level.
  • Experience with interpreting and disseminating evidence-based health information.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of or work in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning as it relates to Nutrition.
  • Experience supervising or advising students.
  • Experience with curriculum development of nutrition and closely related science programs / courses.
  • Demonstrated commitment to improving access to, and retention in, higher education.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver effective, inclusive instruction across all assigned modalities.
  • Assess student learning and maintain accurate grades, attendance, and documentation in the LMS.
  • Provide at least 5 hours/week of student consultation/office hours.
  • Maintain professional communication and support a respectful, safe learning environment.
  • Participate in curriculum development, assessment, and instructional improvement.
  • Engage in departmental collaboration, meetings, and college events.
  • Maintain a meaningful on-campus presence.
  • Uphold all SLCC policies, including FERPA and the Academic Freedom & Professional Responsibility Policy.
  • Remain current in the discipline and maintain required credentials.
  • Participate in professional development and mentorship.
  • Serve on committees and contribute to advising, recruitment, and retention.
  • Mentor adjunct faculty and support department needs.
  • All Faculty will maintain an on-site campus presence to encourage in-person relationships and create engaging, meaningful, and impactful learning experiences.
  • All SLCC employees must maintain permanent residence/address within the State of Utah to maintain employment.
  • A permanent Utah address must be recorded to Human Resources within 30-days of your employment start date.
