About The Position

NorQuesters are difference-makers, and we are searching for someone dedicated to making a difference to join our Faculty of Skills and Foundational Learning team as a daytime, in-person, term instructor in the Correctional Education Program. The successful candidate will thrive in showcasing our values of finding ways forward in teaching and learning environments that are dynamic. Providing compassion and creating a sense of belonging for co-workers and our learners will pave the way for engaging playfulness and creativity in problem- solving. These same values will foster an environment to explore new ways of developing course content, evaluating learning outcomes, and engaging learners in the class in an unconventional setting. This role requires the ability to work in-person at each of our correctional campuses at the Fort Saskatchewan Correctional Centre and the Edmonton Remand Centre.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Education Degree.
  • Valid Alberta Teacher’s certificate.
  • Familiarity with Alberta Education curriculum.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching Alberta Education courses considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience and training in adult education considered an asset.
  • Experience with learners from diverse backgrounds is considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a correctional centre or in a secure environment is considered an asset.
  • Ability to also teach up to Grade 12 level Math (Math 30-2 and 30-3) and Science (Biology 30) an asset

Responsibilities

  • Engage learners in the co-creation of knowledge through teaching and learning upgrading courses based on Alberta Education high school curriculum.
  • Deliver face-to-face course instruction
  • Ability to work independently, and as part of a team
  • Plan, prepare, and facilitate learning through materials and instructional practices that are in alignment with universal design principles and college values of anti-racism and inclusivity.
  • Evaluate the learning outcomes and experience of learners through authentic and relevant assessments.
  • Attend to learner and program records in accordance with College requirements.
  • Potentially serve on College committees that support the institutional strategic direction.
  • Share your knowledge and expertise and learn from your colleagues in faculty/staff meetings, professional development workshops, and other College functions.
  • Actively engage lifelong learning by staying current with developments in your profession through participating in professional organizations and conferences.
  • Use applicable educational technology such as Moodle and PeopleSoft.
  • Communicate with faculty and management as needed.
  • Act as a role model for learners by demonstrating professionalism
