About The Position

Southeastern Louisiana University’s Sims Memorial Library is accepting applications for a Reference and Instruction Librarian at the rank of Instructor. The successful candidate will be expected to provide formal and informal instruction in the use of print and electronic information sources. This includes teaching several sections of the one-credit Introduction to Information Research course and/or "one-shot" bibliographic instruction sessions. The role also involves providing reference service (in-person and electronic transmission) to students, faculty, staff, and the local community using print and electronic reference tools as well as other library resources and services. The candidate may also perform other duties as assigned to support the service initiatives of the Department and the Library. The candidate might be scheduled to work night and weekend hours as needed.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program.
• Experience or coursework in the use of electronic and traditional print reference tools and electronic resources.
• Strong public service ethic.
• Ability to work in a wide-ranging environment.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

• Two years of library reference experience.
• Experience in instruction at college or high school level.
• Experience with instructional (classroom) technology.
• Experience with developing lessons.
