Under the direction of the Associate Dean of the General Education Pathway, or designee, to develop and teach concepts and strategies for a variety of courses. Will require teaching courses in-person at MATC campuses, business, community, other sites, and/or online during the day, evening, and/or weekend. Related duties include participation in department and advisory meetings, department and college functions, course and curriculum development in both traditional and non-traditional formats.

Requirements

• Must have a master’s degree or higher in Sociology, OR; Master’s degree in a related field with at least 18 GRADUATE level coursework credits in Sociology: Related Fields include but are not limited to : Cultural Anthropology; Political Science, Woman's Studies; Urban Studies; African American Studies; Asian American Studies; Gender Studies; Criminal Justice; Human Geography; Demography; Public Health, Statistics; Public Policy Administration; Cultural Foundations of Education; Social History; Social Psychology; Urban Education; Human Development and Social Policy.
• Experience with an Email system (Gmail, Outlook)
• Experience with a voice mail system
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite/Google

Nice To Haves

• Verifiable occupational work experience in a field other than education.
• Experience in teaching, using, and/or developing curriculum in a variety of classroom environments including face-to-face, blended, and 100% online.
• Must be able to develop and maintain curriculum currency.
• Bilingual Spanish/English preferred
• Must embrace and demonstrate Standards of Teaching Excellence and the MATC Career Essentials in development and delivery of instruction.
• Experience with or willingness to learn the following supportive technologies: Online Information Management Systems - e.g. Self-Service or other online information management systems used for student advising, student programs, grading, class schedules and rosters
• Experience with Blackboard or other web-based course - management systems
• Experience with technology-based instructional delivery systems including SMART symposium, interactive touch screen monitors, LCD projectors, DVD players and/or other classroom technology
• Experience with emerging technologies (eg. social networking applications)

Responsibilities

• Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
• Manage the classroom/laboratory.
• Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation.
• Manage equipment, supplies and materials.
• Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.
• Collaborate with the advisory committee in the program area.
• Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
• Promote the education/training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to market MATC.
• Support student organizations and activities.
• Develop relationships with business and industry.
• Complete program evaluation and follow-up.
• Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in the field.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Benefits

• The starting hourly wage for all part-time faculty is $40 per course h our of teaching. Part-time faculty are also compensated for an additional 45 minutes of time for each hour of instruction to cover office hours and prep time which is equivalent to $70 per hour.
