The Instructor will plan, organize, and conduct independent and collaborative research activities with the goal of developing projects that can mature into independently funded research programs. The position will involve participation in both internal and external collaborations, involving multidisciplinary projects with investigators across UT MD Anderson and other institutions. The research focus will involve experimental and computational studies aimed at defining pervasive cellular states that emerge in response to homeostatic tissue perturbations and may prime epithelial cells for oncogenic transformation. Emphasis will be placed on understanding how these altered cellular states suppress activation of normal checkpoints, accelerate tumorigenesis, and contribute to cancer initiation across different organ systems. The Instructor will work closely with, and under the guidance of, the supervising Associate Professor while progressively developing greater scientific independence. Responsibilities will incorporate experimental design, data generation and analysis, manuscript preparation, grant development, mentorship of junior trainees, and contribution to the broader research mission of the Department of Genomic Medicine.
