About The Position

The Instructor, Process Technology position at DCC, within the Academic Affairs department and the Science and Mathematics sub-department, is an Unclassified - Faculty 9-month appointment. This role involves teaching a full load of courses in Process Technology and related disciplines, delivering both lecture and hands-on instruction. Key areas of focus include process operations, safety, health, and environmental practices, instrumentation and control systems, and process equipment. The instructor will utilize lab equipment, simulators, and industry-standard technologies, develop course syllabi, and incorporate active learning strategies. Responsibilities also extend to curriculum development, student support and engagement, program assessment and accreditation, industry and community engagement, and institutional service.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Process Technology, Industrial Technology, Engineering Technology, or closely related field AND Minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience
  • OR Bachelor’s degree in a related field AND Minimum of 3 years of industry experience
  • Direct experience in petrochemical, refining, manufacturing, or process operations environment.
  • Experience with process systems, safety procedures, and industrial equipment
  • Knowledge of Industrial process systems, including petrochemical and refining operations
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and industrial safety practices
  • Knowledge of Process instrumentation and control systems (PLC/DCS exposure preferred)
  • Knowledge of Equipment operation: pumps, compressors, distillation columns, heat exchangers
  • Skills in Effective classroom and laboratory instruction
  • Skills in Ability to translate complex industrial processes into teachable concepts
  • Skills in Strong communication (written and verbal)
  • Skills in Use of instructional technologies (LMS such as Canvas, PTEC simulation software)
  • Skills in Classroom and lab management
  • Abilities to Work effectively with diverse student populations
  • Abilities to Maintain safe laboratory environments
  • Abilities to Collaborate with faculty, staff, and industry partners

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Technology, Industrial Technology, Engineering Technology, or closely related field a related field AND Minimum of 3 years of industry experience
  • Prior teaching or training experience (community college or industry training)
  • Industry certifications (e.g., NCCER, OSHA, operator certifications)
  • Experience with simulators (e.g., process simulation software)
  • Experience with PLCs, DCS systems, or instrumentation
  • Familiarity with Louisiana workforce and LCTC systems

Responsibilities

  • Teach a full load (typically 15 credit hours per semester or equivalent contact hours) in Process Technology and related disciplines
  • Deliver lecture and hands-on instruction in areas such as: Process operations, Safety, health, and environmental practices, Instrumentation and control systems, Process equipment (pumps, valves, heat exchangers, distillation)
  • Utilize lab equipment, simulators, and industry-standard technologies
  • Develop and maintain course syllabi aligned with master course templates and learning outcomes
  • Incorporate active learning, competency-based instruction, and industry scenarios
  • Ensure compliance with SACSCOC, LCTCS, and institutional academic standards
  • Participate in curriculum design, revision, and alignment with industry needs
  • Support development of stackable credentials (CTC, CTS, TD, AAS)
  • Integrate industry-based credentials (IBCs) where applicable
  • Provide academic advising and mentoring to students
  • Maintain regular office hours
  • Support student retention and completion initiatives
  • Participate in recruitment, outreach, and dual enrollment activities
  • Participate in program assessment and continuous improvement processes
  • Maintain documentation for accreditation and program review
  • Track and report student learning outcomes and workforce placement data
  • Maintain strong relationships with local industry partners (refineries, chemical plants, energy sector)
  • Participate in advisory committee meetings
  • Facilitate internships, apprenticeships, and job placement opportunities
  • Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and safety standards
  • Serve on college committees
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and institutional initiatives
