About The Position

Penn State Altoona invites applications for a combined teaching and tutoring position in Mathematics or Statistics. This position is a 12-month, 36-week, non-tenure track appointment for fall and spring semesters beginning Fall 2026. The initial appointments are for one year with a possibility of continuance. The position is a full-time, Non-Tenure-Line Instructor or Open Rank Teaching Professor position in mathematics or statistics that is half teaching and half tutoring in our campus Student Success Center. Qualified candidates in all areas of mathematics and statistics will be considered. Penn State Altoona (www.altoona.psu.edu) is a two-campus, four-year baccalaureate institution. Situated in the beautiful Allegheny Mountains of Central Pennsylvania, Penn State Altoona offers 22 baccalaureate degrees, five associate degrees, and the first two years of more than 160 Penn State baccalaureate majors. Located only 40 miles from the University Park campus, Penn State Altoona offers the advantages of a small college teaching environment with the readily available resources of a major research university.

Requirements

  • minimum of an M.S. or Ph.D. in either Mathematics or Statistics
  • or a B.S./B.A. in either Mathematics or Statistics and an M.S. or Ph.D. in a closely related discipline
  • submit a letter of application establishing their qualifications in both teaching and tutoring
  • a current curriculum vitae
  • a description of teaching philosophy and tutoring philosophy
  • evidence of teaching and tutoring effectiveness
  • transcripts (official transcripts required at the time of an interview)
  • at least three letters of reference
  • Two of the letters of reference should specifically address the applicant’s teaching and/or tutoring
  • complete the Penn State application
  • submit an application through Mathjobs.org
