About The Position

The Philosophy Division/College of Liberal Arts, Social Inquiry, and Human Development at Louisiana State University-New Orleans invites applications for a non-tenure-track Instructor position in Philosophy (4/4). Applicants should have an AOS in analytic philosophy to include logic, philosophy of mind/cognitive science, and philosophy of science. Applicants should have an AOC in history of philosophy. Applicants must be able to develop and deliver asynchronous online courses in support of our online degree program. The successful candidate will be both a dynamic and inspiring educator, as well as an active and collegial full partner in the life of our small but active BA program. This position is responsible for 12 academic units per semester (4/4). Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in Philosophy as needed delivered both face-to-face and online. As a member of a small BA program, each faculty member must be able to teach general education courses, courses in the history of philosophy, or other courses that fall outside their AOS. Other responsibilities include serving as director for majors taking their capstone course, participating in the juried oral defenses of our majors each semester, and supporting the administrative functions of the unit. Additional service responsibilities may include participation on division, department, school, college and/or university committees.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Philosophy
  • Evidence of teaching excellence at the University level
  • AOS in analytic philosophy to include logic, philosophy of mind/cognitive science, and philosophy of science.
  • AOC in history of philosophy.
  • Ability to develop and deliver asynchronous online courses.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrable expertise in curriculum development and delivery of asynchronous online courses.
  • Competence to teach courses in each of the four performance areas of History of Philosophy, Logic, Ethics, and Metaphysics/Epistemology.

Responsibilities
