About The Position

This is a full-time, academic year, tenure-track position in Drama and Theater. The position reports to the Dean of Arts, Sciences, & Technologies. The instructor will teach 30 hours (TLE) per academic year in Drama and Theater classes, recruit and direct two performance productions, and collaborate with music faculty for performance partnerships. Responsibilities also include teaching College Orientation, a range of ages from dual enrollment high school students to returning adults, and recruiting students to enhance the program's viability. The role may require teaching evenings/weekends and/or off-campus courses. A learning-centered educational philosophy is expected, with course redesign to include research-based learning strategies such as service-learning, learning communities, critical thinking, co-operative learning, and reading across the curriculum. Development of web-enhanced courses for technology-enhanced classrooms, online, or hybrid delivery is also required. The instructor will develop cooperative education opportunities for students, become certified in and use the course management system, and work with colleagues to assess course effectiveness and implement improvement plans. Assisting with the identification and mentoring of adjunct instructors, participating in professional development, and maintaining professional organization membership are also key duties. Curriculum revision and development, assisting with schedules and textbook selection, advising students, maintaining office hours, and participating in college life and committee work are expected. The role may involve acquiring software certifications, assisting in grant writing, and actively communicating with colleagues and students within 72 hours. The instructor must be able to teach and manage multiple courses in an individualized setting, provide accessible course materials, teach in a correctional facility, and be trained and certified as a Master Advisor. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate well in oral and written English.

  • Master’s Degree with 18 graduate semester hours in Theatre/Drama from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Teaching experience.

  • Doctorate from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Experience in leading/directing theater performances.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with 18 graduate hours in an additional subject area that supports the general education core.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 30 hours (TLE) per academic year in Drama and Theater classes.
  • Recruit and direct two performance productions at the Main Campus in Dyersburg.
  • Collaborate with the vocal and instrumental music faculty for potential performance partnerships.
  • Teach College Orientation class as needed.
  • Teach a range of ages from Dual Enrollment high school students to nontraditional, returning adults.
  • Recruit students from area high schools and from the community to make DSCC’s program viable and competitive.
  • Be prepared to teach evenings/weekends and/or off-campus courses as needed (requires the use of personal vehicle).
  • Practice a learning-centered educational philosophy and redesign courses to include research-based learning strategies including service-learning opportunities, learning communities, critical thinking skills, co-operative learning, and reading across the curriculum.
  • Develop web-enhanced courses for delivery in technology-enhanced classrooms/labs (such as interactive (ITV) rooms), online or in a hybrid mode.
  • Develop cooperative education opportunities for students in the local community that provide capstone experiences for the program.
  • Become certified in and fully use the course management system for all classes.
  • Work with colleagues to assess the effectiveness of courses, analyze the results, develop and implement improvement plans, and document this information each semester in the form prescribed by DSCC.
  • Assist with the identification and mentoring of adjunct instructors.
  • Participate in professional development and maintain membership in an appropriate regional, state and/or national organization related to your teaching at DSCC.
  • Revise and develop curriculum in cooperation with colleagues; assist in preparation of schedules and in selection of textbooks (including e-textbooks when appropriate).
  • Advise students, maintain regular office hours, and participate in college life and committee work of the College.
  • Be willing to acquire software certifications as needed.
  • Assist in grant writing.
  • Actively communicate with colleagues and students using email, voice mail, text and other electronic means. Normally, responses are expected in no more than 72 hours.
  • Be able to teach and manage multiple courses in an individualized setting.
  • Provide course materials and information in a format that is accessible for all students.
  • Be able to teach in a correctional facility (prison and/or jail).
  • Be trained and certified as a Master Advisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
