About The Position

Southeastern Louisiana University’s Department of Music and Performing Arts is now accepting applications for an Instructor of Clarinet position. The appointment begins with a preferred start date of August 2026. This is a nine-month position that requires work to be performed in Hammond, Louisiana.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Music by hire date
  • Clarinet performance experience
  • Graduate study on clarinet
  • Successful teaching experience
  • Experience or potential as a college-level music instructor

Nice To Haves

  • Doctorate or ABD in clarinet performance
  • Record of successful student recruitment and studio development
  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues, students, and community partners

Responsibilities

  • Teach an applied clarinet studio, consisting of both music and non-music majors, clarinet studio classes, and related courses (including pedagogy, single reed methods, and chamber music).
  • Teach in a secondary area(s) of need.
  • Recruit and mentor a talented study body, preparing graduates for successful careers in teaching, performance, and related fields.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, in wind, orchestral, and chamber music ensembles to support a vibrant performance culture.
  • Provide service to the department, college, university, and profession through committee participation, leadership, and community engagement.
