About The Position

This position is responsible for maintaining continued competence in assigned and related areas, fostering a good working relationship with students, faculty, staff, and community members, and assisting in the college’s recruitment and retention efforts. The role also involves participating in college governance by serving on committees and adhering to college rules, regulations, and state guidelines. A key aspect of this role is demonstrating LSSC’s core values of Caring, Communicating, Collaborating, and Celebrating in all interactions. The instructor will plan and execute instructional duties to maximize student learning, supervise students, teach assigned courses, and perform on-site clinical practice teaching at designated hospitals. The role requires working a minimum of 35 hours per week, including classroom, office/student contact, and program/college-needs hours. Responsibilities also include assisting with registration and recruitment, providing students with course syllabi, functioning as a faculty committee member, attending meetings, evaluating student progress, maintaining accurate records, resolving discipline problems, counseling students, utilizing necessary materials and equipment, staying current with instructional developments, recommending curriculum changes, complying with administrative rules, participating in annual evaluations and ceremonies, and maintaining communication with all stakeholders. The instructor may teach on multiple campus sites and must be proficient in computer use for coursework, grading, and basic Microsoft Office functions. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Nursing
  • Active, clear Florida RN or APRN License
  • Two (2) most recent years of medical/surgical clinical experience
  • Demonstrated computer technology proficiency in Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, Teams, & PowerPoint)
  • Effectively communicate in both a virtual and physical environment
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Ability to successfully demonstrate knowledge and expertise in the applied field

Responsibilities

  • Plan and carry out instructional duties that maximize learning by students.
  • Supervise students in accordance with program procedures, academic, and course-related concerns.
  • Teach assigned courses in accordance with course descriptions.
  • Perform on-site clinical practice teaching at designated hospitals.
  • Work a minimum of 35 hours per week, which includes 15 classroom hours, 10 office or student contact hours, and 10 hours as needed by the program/college.
  • Assist with registration and/or recruitment when requested.
  • Furnish each student with a course syllabus listing performance objectives, course expectations, grading procedures, withdrawal procedures, class attendance policies, and office phone and e-mail access.
  • Function as a member of the faculty committee in developing the instructional program and educational philosophy of the college.
  • Attend all scheduled or called meetings by the President or Vice President of Academic Affairs, Deans, Department Chairs, and Director of Nursing, unless excused by the administrator in charge.
  • Teach all classes for the whole period as scheduled.
  • Evaluate student progress and achievement with clear methods presented in the course syllabus.
  • Utilizes evaluation results for planning, instruction, counseling, and program modification.
  • Keep accurate and up-to-date records.
  • Submit grade reports and other required data on or before deadline dates.
  • Resolve discipline problems within the sphere of responsibility.
  • Assist and counsel students as needed, including during office and campus times.
  • Utilizes materials and equipment necessary to accomplish designated tasks.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of current instructional developments.
  • Regularly examines the content of assigned courses and recommends changes to the curriculum committee as needed.
  • Comply with appropriate administrative rules/regulations and Board Policy.
  • Participates in an annual evaluation process as specified by the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
  • Participate in Commencement ceremonies and Nursing pinning ceremonies.
  • Maintain continuity of communication with students, community, faculty, staff, and supervisors through timely replies to meetings, phone calls, mail, and email requests.
  • Teach on multiple campus sites as needed.
  • Competent in computer proficiency (Coursework, grading, as well as basic Microsoft Office knowledge)
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
