About The Position

This position is for an Instructor in the Associate Degree Nursing Program with a primary focus on maternity. The role requires a Master's degree in Nursing and four years of relevant nursing work experience, including a focus on maternity. The instructor must possess or be eligible for a valid RN license in Delaware or a compact state. Key responsibilities include demonstrating knowledge of nursing subjects, teaching methods, clinical skills, and nursing protocol, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population and function without limitations in a clinical setting. The instructor must also be able to meet the essential functions of a clinical faculty member.

Requirements

  • Possession of a Master’s degree in Nursing.
  • Four (4) years of relevant work experience in nursing that includes primary focus in maternity.
  • Possession of, or eligibility for, a valid license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Delaware or compact state at time of application and during employment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of subject matter in areas of nursing, teaching methods, clinical skills, and nursing protocol.
  • Ability to communicate subject matter in a diverse population.
  • Ability to function in clinical setting without limitation.
  • Must be able to meet the essential functions as outlined for a clinical faculty member.
  • Visual acuity with corrective lenses to identify color changes in skin, respiratory movements in clients, read fine print/writing on physicians orders, monitors, equipment calibrations, measure medications in syringes, IVs, etc.
  • Hearing ability with auditory aides to hear monitor alarms, emergency signals, call bells, telephone orders; to hear blood pressure, heart, lung, and abdominal sounds with a stethoscope; to understand a normal speaking voice without viewing the speaker’s face.
  • Physical ability to walk long distances, to stand for prolong periods, to lift, move, and transfer patients, equipment of 50 lbs. or more, to maneuver in limited space, to perform CPR , to provide routine and emergency patient care, to have manual dexterity and feeling ability of hands to insert tubes, prepare medications, and perform technical skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form through interaction with clients, family, and health care members.
  • Ability to write clearly and correctly on client’s record for legal documentation.
  • Intellectual and conceptual ability for measuring, calculating, reasoning, analyzing, prioritizing, and synthesizing data.
  • Ability to function safely under stress and adapt to changing clinical and client situations.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate motor ability including walking long distances, standing for prolonged periods, lifting/moving/transferring patients and equipment (50 lbs or more), maneuvering in limited space, performing CPR, providing routine and emergency patient care, and possessing manual dexterity for technical skills.
  • Communicate effectively in verbal and written form with clients, families, and healthcare members.
  • Write clearly and correctly on client records for legal documentation.
  • Utilize intellectual and conceptual ability for measuring, calculating, reasoning, analyzing, prioritizing, and synthesizing data.
  • Maintain emotional stability and function safely under stress.
  • Adapt to changing clinical and client situations.
  • Meet all clinical agency immunization requirements.
