About The Position

Prepare future law enforcement professionals through engaging instruction, practical experience, and a strong commitment to student success. Gateway faculty facilitate student learning and participate in efforts to continually improve student success. As a learning facilitator, you will assess student learning outcomes, evaluate your own teaching effectiveness, and adjust instruction to support student achievement. Students develop the knowledge, judgment, and professional skills needed for careers in law enforcement. Instruction remains current, practical, and aligned with professional and regulatory expectations. Students receive timely feedback that helps them improve and complete their training successfully. Strong relationships with law enforcement agencies and industry partners strengthen the learning experience. Gateway maintains a professional, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment.

Requirements

  • Associate degree and three years, or 6,000 hours, of law enforcement experience. OR At least 60 college credits and three years, or 6,000 hours, of law enforcement experience.
  • At least 2,000 hours of relevant occupational experience must have been completed within the last five years, or at least two years of full-time postsecondary teaching experience, equivalent to eight semesters of part-time teaching, in the occupational field must have been completed within the last five years.
  • Must be a current or previously certified, retired Law Enforcement Officer in the State of Wisconsin.
  • Must have completed the 32-Hour Criminal Justice Instructor Development Course and hold valid Instructor Development Course certification with the Law Enforcement Standards Board.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, agile environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse workforce and student population.
  • Ability to use student learning management systems.
  • Cultural competence, strong emotional intelligence, and the ability to engage and build relationships with constituents and underrepresented communities.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis.
  • Employment is contingent upon anCEptable background check.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver approved law enforcement curriculum in classroom, laboratory, and applied learning settings.
  • Manage the classroom or laboratory effectively and maintain a professional learning environment.
  • Use instructional methods that promote participation, skill development, and student success.
  • Monitor student progress and assess student learning outcomes.
  • Provide students with timely and frequent feedback regarding academic and skill performance.
  • Monitor curriculum effectiveness and recommend updates or improvements when appropriate.
  • Assist with program evaluation and continuous improvement activities.
  • Assess your own teaching effectiveness and adjust instructional practices based on student needs and outcomes.
  • Use student learning management systems to support instruction, communication, assessment, and documentation.
  • Promote and participate in student recruitment, retention, and completion efforts.
  • Foster a culture of professionalism, accountability, and inclusive learning.
  • Build productive relationships with students from varied backgrounds and experiences.
  • Help students connect course expectations with professional standards and career readiness.
  • Participate in advisory committees, institutional committees, and related college initiatives.
  • Maintain required certifications and professional credentials.
  • Continue professional development and remain current in law enforcement practices and instructional methods.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with law enforcement agencies, employers, and industry partners.
