About The Position

Train America employs journeyman and master level tradespeople as Instructors (we call them Guides) to train the next generation of HVACR, electrical, plumbing and maintenance technicians at our training centers embedded at distribution partner locations. This part-time instructor role allows you to earn more and give back by teaching a few courses per year, with each course typically involving 1 Saturday and 5 weeknights. This role is designed for individuals still actively working in their trade, as staying in the field makes you a better instructor. No teaching experience or degree is required; your license and years of field experience are your credentials. Training is conducted at one of our training centers, and there is no travel involved. You can sign up for bootcamps that fit your schedule, and there is no curriculum to write.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience working in one of the following trades: HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Facilities/Commercial Maintenance, Industrial Maintenance
  • A license or certification in your trade where Texas requires one, in good standing — for example a Journeyman or Master license, or a Journeyman or Master Plumber license.
  • EPA 608 for refrigerant work.
  • Professional communication, interpersonal and team-building skills.
  • Ability to commute to the Del Valle training center and teach at least 4 bootcamps per year.

Responsibilities

  • Inspire a group of students as their instructor.
  • Facilitate elearning and simulations for students to learn the theories.
  • Facilitate and oversee hands-on activities in the lab.

Benefits

  • Hourly pay between $40 - 50 per hour depending on experience and credentials.
