About The Position

This is a 9-month non-tenure-track instructor position in the Hospitality Management program in the School of Human Environmental Sciences at the University of Arkansas. The position involves teaching undergraduate students, supervising student interns, and contributing to the continued growth and visibility of the program. Teaching responsibilities may include hospitality finance, lodging operations, property management systems, casino management, and related areas of the hospitality industry. The instructor is expected to provide high-quality, student-centered instruction, maintain an active presence in program activities, and engage in service to the university, profession, and community. The role includes supporting annual programmatic events, fostering strong partnerships with industry stakeholders, and providing leadership in strengthening experiential learning opportunities, student career development, and program visibility at the local, regional, and national levels. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in hospitality management, tourism, business or a closely related field
  • Significant professional experience in hospitality management, including tourism, lodging, casino operations, or event management
  • Demonstrated experience in management, leadership, fundraising or human resources in the hospitality industry
  • Evidence of effective teaching, training, or coaching in academic or professional settings
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with industry-standard hospitality, finance, property management, and event management software
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and instructional technologies
  • Ability to design engaging learning experiences and support diverse learners
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities
  • Ability to build productive relationships with students, alumni, employers, advisory board members, and industry partners
  • Ability to support experiential learning initiatives, internship programs, and student career readiness
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Ten or more years of progressive leadership experience in hospitality management or a closely related field
  • Documented experience teaching, advising, or mentoring undergraduate and honors students, including support for academic progress, career development, and internships
  • Experience developing and maintaining strategic industry partnerships that support student learning, internships, recruitment, and program growth
  • Active participation in relevant professional organizations and/or possession of industry-recognized certifications
  • Demonstrated collaboration with hospitality organizations, including hotels, casinos, restaurants, tourism organizations, attractions, event venues, and destination management organizations
  • Evidence of interdisciplinary work or partnerships with colleagues and professionals across hospitality and related sectors
  • Evidence of public speaking, professional presentations, thought leadership, media engagement, or professional outreach that enhances program visibility and reputation
