About The Position

Instructor, Engineering Technology delivering high-quality instruction in electronics and computer engineering subjects, monitoring student progress, and ensuring an engaging learning environment. The instructor will provide safe and properly maintained class/lab, deliver theoretical instruction and hands-on applications in electrical/electronic and computer upgrade/repair processes. The primary instructional location for this position is a local high school.

Requirements

Associate degree in Electronics Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering Technology, or a closely related field
Two years of relevant industry experience
Strong technical knowledge of electrical and computer engineering principles

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field
5+ years of industry experience
Teaching or training experience in a classroom, corporate, or apprenticeship setting

Responsibilities

Deliver engaging, industry-relevant instruction in both seated and online formats.
Stay updated with emerging technologies to ensure course content remains current.
Foster a supportive learning environment through proactive student engagement.
Assist with student recruitment efforts and promote program growth.
Maintain and oversee lab equipment, ensuring safety and functionality.
Serve as a mentor to students in your area of expertise.
Provide career mentoring and career exploration opportunities
Serve as a facilitator for the development of employability skills
Coordination of industry visits and guest speakers (including industry and program representatives)
Teach 15-18 contact hours per semester, incorporating real-world applications and hands-on learning.
Develop and deliver well-structured, engaging lessons that align with industry trends.
Provide timely, constructive feedback to support student learning and growth.
As needed, teach classes online, on-campus, and/or at off-campus sites.
Teach an academic success class as needed.
Maintain regular, appropriate, professional communication with students.
Incorporate appropriate instructional technology to enhance student learning.
Ensure cleanliness of instructional areas and laboratories.
Ensure the proper operation of classroom/lab equipment, reporting any malfunctions to the appropriate person(s).
Participate in the evaluation and acquisition of instructional materials, audiovisual aids, support and equipment needs.
Develop and distribute course syllabi according to the established template and guidelines, providing appropriate information to students concerning course expectations, evaluation criteria, and access to student support services.
Offer at least five office hours per week to provide student support and guidance.
Act as a mentor, helping students navigate academic and career pathways.
Maintain regular, appropriate, professional communication with students.
Participate in semester advising and registration activities as needed.
Assist in the recruitment and retention efforts of the College.
Advocate and provide motivation for students.
Communicate students’ needs to Program Head.
Regularly communicate with SCC’s dual enrollment liaisons about student progress or issues.
Maintain accurate records and submit reports, grades, and required documentation on time.
Engage in professional development to stay current in instructional methods and industry trends.
Participate in program and curriculum review.
Participate in campus activities.
Participate in discipline, departmental, divisional, and institutional meetings and other announced co-curricular activities of the College.
Maintain regular, professional communication within the college and affiliated industry contacts.
Maintain posted office and on-campus hours sufficient to fulfill all contracted duties and individual professional obligations and meet the needs of the discipline, department, division, and College.
Support all functions of the College, including compliance with all facets of the College's academic policies.
Serve on and actively contribute to college committees as assigned
Provide and/or facilitate quality experiences in laboratory and/or clinical settings to meet program needs.
Report any safety issues to the Program Head or appropriate High School official.
Report any equipment maintenance needs in the labs to the appropriate Program Head or Dean.
