About The Position

The Blinn College District is searching for a Full Time Instructor - Economics at our Brenham Campus. This role performs the day-to-day operations of the Economics instructional program at the assigned campuses. The instructor will provide instruction for courses at a variety of times and locations, demonstrating a commitment to student engagement, student success, and instructional excellence. A student-centered teaching approach is expected, placing students’ learning, needs, experiences, engagement, and success at the center of the educational process. The instructor will maintain access to students through posted office hours and electronic communication, and utilize the College’s learning management system to deliver instruction, provide timely feedback, and manage grades and assessments. Responsibilities include preparing and utilizing course syllabi and assessments, maintaining current knowledge of effective teaching methodologies, advising students, and evaluating student performance. The instructor will also assist in curriculum development and continuous improvement activities, maintain positive professional relationships, and submit required reports and grades by deadlines. A commitment to lifelong learning through professional development and a passion for teaching community college students are essential. Effective communication skills, both written and oral, are required, as is attendance at college orientation and required institutional meetings. Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or higher in Economics or a Master’s degree or higher with at least 18 graduate credit hours in Economics.
  • Deliver instruction aligned with approved course learning outcomes and institutional standards.
  • Develop and administer appropriate assessments (e.g., problem sets, exams, applied assignments) and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Use the institution’s learning management system (LMS) D2L and required instructional technologies to support student learning.
  • Maintain a professional, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
  • Adhere to institutional policies, academic integrity standards, and ethical teaching practices.
  • Demonstrate reliability, preparedness, and effective communication in fulfilling instructional responsibilities.

Nice To Haves

  • College-level teaching experience teaching introductory economics courses.
  • Ability to integrate real-world, business, or policy-based examples into instruction.
  • Experience teaching in online or hybrid learning environments.
  • Familiarity with active and applied learning strategies that support student engagement.
  • Experience using learning management systems and instructional technologies.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student-centered and inclusive teaching practices.

Responsibilities

  • Use the College’s learning management system to deliver instruction, provide timely feedback to students on assignments, house and report grades, and assessments.
  • Prepares and utilizes a course syllabus and assessments for each course using guidelines established by the institution.
  • Maintains current knowledge of effective teaching methodologies and utilizes a variety of instructional delivery methods, classroom media, and educational resources.
  • Advises students in academic matters.
  • Evaluates students' performance through a variety of means to measure progress and keep them informed in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the development, distribution, collection, analysis and continuous improvement activities of assessments for courses and program objectives.
  • Provides recommendations to the Academic Dean, Assistant Dean, Department Heads, and Curriculum Resource Team regarding curriculum,
  • Demonstrates a positive and professional relationship with students, colleagues, college administration, and the community.
  • Submits final grades, census attendance reports, and all other required data according to the College’s deadlines.
  • Submits timely college reports and forms to the appropriate divisions/departments.
  • Exhibits a commitment to lifelong learning through participation in professional development activities.
  • Possesses a passion for teaching community college students.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills, both written and orally.
  • Attends college orientation and required institutional meetings.
  • Responsible for other related duties as assigned.
