Requirements

  • Earned master’s degree in the teaching discipline (MSW) from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of two years of social work practice experience post-MSW.
  • Experience as a field supervisor or field instructor.
  • Experience with developing and maintaining community partnerships.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Knowledge and understanding of disciplinary subject matter at a level adequate for graduate-level instruction; written and oral communication skills sufficient to conduct effective teaching and research activities; ability to interact with students, staff, and faculty in a professional, collegial, and collaborative manner.

Nice To Haves

  • LCSW licensed or license eligible.
  • 3-5 years of practice experience post licensure.
  • DSW or Doctorate in a related field.
  • Possess the desire and flexibility to teach across the social work curriculum at both levels (BSW and MSW).
  • Preference is given to applicants with classroom or online course development and teaching experience.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and evaluate a comprehensive field placement program for undergraduate (BSW and BAAS) and graduate (MSW) students at all four (4) program locations ensuring timely placement of students, quality and that the field education program meets CSWE accreditation standards and adhere to relevant Tarleton policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with Program Directors and faculty to ensure field courses are integrated into the department’s curriculum, develop and update syllabi and Canvas course shells for field practicum courses.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of training to all field practicum instructors (faculty field liaisons).
  • Oversee and supervise Field Liaisons at all program sites.
  • Collaborate with the Program Directors to support program assessment by developing and implementing assessment mechanisms to evaluate the outcomes of field instruction.
  • Prepare fact sheets and annual reports to disseminate field related information.
  • Create field policy, update policy manual and field forms and materials, and modify/recommend changes in policy.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the Field Education content on the department's web page.
  • Develop and maintain community partnerships and field practicum sites.
  • Collaborate with relevant Tarleton offices in the development and maintenance of affiliation agreements with all community partners and field agencies.
  • Consult and collaborate with all levels of community partner leadership in areas related to field curriculum, partnership initiatives, and workforce development.
  • Assure all community partner field supervisors are prepared and supported for their work with students, and the social work programs.
  • Serve as social work department representative for internal and community stakeholders related to all aspects of field education.
  • Chair the Field Education Advisory Board.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lectures, seminars, and/or laboratory offerings to undergraduate and/or graduate students, which may include general education core curriculum.
  • Teach one field course each semester.
  • Develop course syllabi, select instructional materials, and design assessments such as exams, quizzes, papers, etc.
  • Assess student performance, provide timely feedback, and evaluate student learning outcomes to inform teaching practices and curriculum improvements.
  • Engage students in active learning, foster critical thinking skills, and provide opportunities for discussion, collaboration, and hands-on learning.
  • Provide academic support and guidance to students through office hours, feedback on assignments, and mentoring.
  • Adhere to university policies, academic integrity standards, and accreditation requirements related to teaching responsibilities.
  • Incorporate innovative teaching methods, technologies, and pedagogical approaches to enhance student learning and engagement.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development activities to stay current in the field, improve teaching skills, and explore new instructional strategies.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, departmental faculty, and university staff to coordinate course offerings, share resources, and contribute to program development and improvement.
  • Participate in institutional service roles including but not limited to, college committees, advisory committees, student/faculty recruitment, and mentoring of new and part-time faculty.
