About The Position
The Department of Social Services at Langara College delivers a Social Service Worker Certificate. The successful applicant will work as a member of the Social Services Department, teaching SSRV 1116: Social Service Methods I, to students in the Certificate program. This course is scheduled from 130-320 on M/W afternoons. A study of the concepts and basic principles of working with people in a helping relationship, including interpersonal skills and self-care. The course is founded upon a model of client and worker empowerment which incorporates the BC College of Social Workers’ Code of Ethics. Students examine the context and nature of the helping relationship, based on a structural framework for conducting helping interviews. A key part of the course is the ll-building students develop through roleplays, some of which are recorded and critiqued.
Requirements
- Minimum Master’s degree in Social Work
- Eligible for Registration with the College of Social Workers of BC
- Demonstrated expertise in the field of Social Work.
- Teaching experience in public post-secondary institution(s) or equivalent
- Excellent communication skills
- Relevant involvement in the community
- Knowledge of community resources
- Basic computer literacy
Responsibilities
- Preparation and delivery of curriculum.
- Maintaining office hours and availability to consult with students.
- Evaluating student performance.
- Attending meetings both internally in the College and externally in the community.
- Working within the context of the policies and procedures of Langara College, the Department of Social Services, and the British Columbia Social Work Code of Ethics.
